Creative Use of Stock Photos

The latest addition to products available in our Cafe Press shop Photo Accents is a good example of the benefit of stock photos. Three years ago we had a publishers request for llama pictures.

We found a llama business in Georgia agreeable to our request to photograph herd of llamas. Some of the pictures made then were published in a children’s book on llamas.

Another llama picture is available on products at Cafe Press like the sweatshirt below.

San Diego Harbor Cruise

We finished working yesterday by photographing some of the Trees Project 3 along the Embarcadero and taking a late afternoon cruise in San Diego Harbor.

Although we have worked here on three earlier trips, we were surprised to see the sea lions and birds at the bait traps in the harbor.  Reminds us of the sea lions in San Francisco Bay.  But here there is no way for tourists to see them unless by boat.

If you have photo requests for us, PLEASE email them to us at kphotos@earthlink.net.  It seems that the spam catcher on this blog may prevent us from receiving photo requests that are left as comments to the blog.

We had 3 productive hours working at the San Diego Zoo this morning.  Weather is cool and perfect light conditions!

If you are a photo buyer with a project using San Diego images, email us at kphotos@earthlink.net and we’ll try to include your needs in our schedule this week.  Derk is out photographing Star of India and the Embarcadero now.

Working in Key Largo, Florida, USA

This week we have been working in Key Largo, Florida, USA. Great place to photograph marine fish (John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park) and marine mammals.

Fortunately there was no rain and the waters above the coral reefs were not riled up so visibility was wonderful. We took the snorkel tour from John Pennekamp and photographed at White Banks. We swam with many, many more fish than when at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia!

We also photographed dolphin/human encounters and should have great film from there. Lighting might be a problem as ambient light was low due to approaching storm clouds. The film is being developed now.

While on the dolphin property we photographed ibis birds exhibiting unusual behavior. A large group- 15 or more – were standing in a huge puddle, maybe 1/2 foot deep, some were bathing while others appeared to be drinking. We’ve never seen them bathe before.

ImageKind Featured Artist

On March 30 we joined ImageKind and have been uploading images ever since. The first sale came during the third week. Yesterday we received the following email from ImageKind:

“Congratulations! You have been selected as a Featured Artist of the Week at Imagekind!

We have selected an image from your gallery to be placed on the homepage of Imagekind.com, along with a short artist’s bio, which links to your Imagekind profile. This will stay in place for at least a week and sometimes, dependent on its popularity, may continue in place for another week. This cycle usually takes place on each Wednesday. You don’t need to do anything, you’re already on the homepage! However, this is a great time to update your galleries with any new work and to ensure that all your relevant details are in place.

It is our privilege to showcase your work as being outstanding amidst a field of so many other great artists and photographers. Our success is entirely about you, our creative community. Please tell your colleagues, friends and family about the #1 place on the web to discover and purchase original art.

Have a great day and we wish you continued success!

Cheers,

Travis Young”

Currently we have Animals, Birds, Butterflies, Flowers, Tropical Fish, Washington DC, San Diego, San Francisco, New Orleans picture galleries.

Working in Washington, D.C., USA

We have been photographing in Washington, D.C., USA, since last Friday. The weather has been almost perfect. There was a lot of wind today. Our hotel is only 2 blocks from the White House and almost every street has beautiful bronze statues. Most seem to have been important figures in the Revolutionary War.

We have current images of the following Washington, D.C. locations: Union Station with its shopping areas, Congress, the White House, Washington Convention Center, National Zoological Park ( giant panda, elephants, cheetah), National Gallery of Art, National Museum of the American Indian and lots more.

The modern sculpture at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden was especially fascinating to photograph. Will post an example after the film is developed. We use 35mm slide film and then scan and burn CDs for photobuyers who prefer digital submissions.

Happy New Year

After taking some time off for the holidays, we are back to work. Spent a day photographing at Mote Marine Aquarium, Bradenton, Florida. They allow tripods and flash so that makes it possible to get good images.

A picture of scorpionfish and toadfish together made an image that would look good framed on a wall so we scanned it for CafePress. It will be added to a set of slides we will send to one of our regular photobuyers soon.

It can be seen with other animal pictures in Framed Art Pictures and here. BTW if you enjoy reading about our adventures in the world of stock photography add us to your Technorati Favorites .

Terrier Dog Pictures

While reviewing our animal pictures inventory we found the cutest terrier dog breed photo. So, we shilouetted it and added the image to our Photo Accents Bird & Animal Gifts section Dog Lover Gifts.

With holiday shopping in full sway we divide our time between reviewing slide film to scan & burn to cds for photo buyers and our stock agencies and making new images for Cafe Press. Of course, photo buyers requsts come first!

The new terrier dog breed image can be seen below on the new short sleeve dark t-shirt available in military green, cardinal red, navy or black. Dark t-shirts are offered in long sleeve t-shirt styles, too. Take a look.terrier dog on t-shirt

Photobuyers Want List

Today we are reviewing inventory for pictures of old person or child walking a dog.  Our Orlando stock inventory includes a dog show at Lake Eola.  There should be lots of dogs on leashes.

Our San Francisco, California stock inventory includes several 4th of July parades and there were dogs on leashes there, too.  The only question is the age of the person holding the leash.

After the appropriate images are located, they’ll go up in a lightbox for the photobuyer.
